Ignacio Pieckenstainer left the city of Rosario to take on a new challenge at Maggiolo’s hospital, thanks to the campaign led by Welcome to My Village. Today, his story inspires those dreaming of a fuller life in small villages. Thanks to the Welcome to My Village program, Ignacio Pieckenstainer found a unique opportunity: working at Maggiolo’s hospital, a town that welcomed him with open arms. After several visits and meetings, he was confirmed for the position and moved to Maggiolo. His story serves as a powerful example for those looking to leave the city behind in search of a more balanced life in rural communities. At ES VICIS Foundation, we strive to connect the needs of small towns with the talents and dedication of families and professionals from larger cities ready to embrace a new chapter. “Welcome to My Village” Highlights Achievements at FLACSO Seminar

At the seminar The Public in Question, ES VICIS showcased the progress of Welcome to My Village, emphasizing the innovative data collection and impact measurement matrix co-developed with FLACSO experts in local development and evaluation. On November 13, the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences (FLACSO) hosted the seminar The Public in Question: Argentine Civil Society in Uncertain Times. During the event, Mercedes Manfroni, Coordinator of the ES VICIS Foundation and the Welcome to My Village program in Argentina, together with Alejandro Casalis, Academic Director of the Master’s Program in Public Policies for Development with Social Inclusion at FLACSO, delivered a presentation titled: “Welcome to My Village (ES VICIS): Methodology, Networks, and Partnerships for Local Development and the Sustainable Repopulation of Small Towns in Argentina (2016–2024).” The presentation explored how Welcome to My Village has revitalized rural communities by leveraging innovative strategies, fostering interinstitutional collaboration, and promoting citizen participation. A key focus was the partnership between ES VICIS and FLACSO Argentina to implement a cutting-edge data collection and impact evaluation matrix tailored to Welcome to My Village. This comprehensive tool encompasses 12 dimensions, 69 variables, 400 indicators, and 13 data collection instruments, providing robust insights into the program’s contributions to local development and sustainable repopulation efforts.

Guests enjoyed a delightful evening of connection and inspiration, including a presentation by Gallery Director Simmy Swinder Voellmy on the captivating exhibition, “The Oculist Witness”, by South African contemporary artist Kendell Geers. This exhibition was featured for the first time in Basel during Art Basel 2024, adding a unique artistic touch to our gathering. Cintia Jaime Shares Her Vision for the Future at the World Woman Davos Agenda Summit

During the World Woman Davos Agenda held on  on January, 18th, in Davos, Cintia Jaime, Executive Director of ES VICIS, attended the summit as part of a global conversation about gender equality, sustainability, and the power of women as agents of change. Throughout the event, Cintia reflected on the importance of closing the digital divide to achieve true equality. “It is crucial to recognize that nearly 3 billion people in the world lack access to the internet. At ES VICIS, our goal is to ensure digital access for rural women to empower them economically and foster inclusion,” she shared in her reflections after the summit. The event also featured powerful interventions from leading women such as: Natalia Olynec, Director of Sustainability at IMD, who emphasized: “Guess what… it’s not a technical or engineering problem; it’s a mindset and psychological challenge. Changing our way of thinking is crucial to foster collaboration across sectors and functions, making sustainability and inclusion integral to everyone’s work.” Helen Clark, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, who delivered a compelling message: “To drive change in women’s rights, active participation in politics is key.” Sandrine Dixson-Declève, Co-President of the Club of Rome, who shared powerful advice: “Don’t succumb to your inner critical and doubtful voice.” Dr. Sandy Chong, awarded for her work in equality and sustainability, who stood out for her warm and inspiring articulation of deep ideas: “Education has been my gateway to becoming an agent of change.”

Discover the Life of Constanza Lisdero, Proud Resident of a Small Town near Basel and Platinum Member of the ES VICIS Foundation

In our campaign promoting life beyond city limits, we reached out to our Platinum member, Constanza Lisdero, for her invaluable perspective. She shared, ‘I live in a small town, population 11,000, and I,’ she humorously jokes, ‘this is my garden,’ as she gracefully strolls through the tranquil streets of her community, surrounded by the green landscapes of farmers. Constanza Lisdero, a dedicated Platinum member of the ES VICIS Foundation Partners program, generously shared her testimonial, offering insights into the fulfilling life she leads outside urban confines. Cintia Jaime of ES VICIS Participates in the Global Summit “B for Good Leaders”

On May 10 and 11, Cintia Jaime, Executive Director of ES VICIS, participated in the international “B for Good Leaders” Summit held in Amsterdam. This gathering brought together over 1,000 global leaders to discuss innovative solutions to address social, environmental, and economic challenges, accelerating the transition to a regenerative economy. The Summit featured prominent figures such as Muhammad Yunus, founder of microcredit; Paul Polman, former CEO of Unilever and advocate for corporate sustainability; and Queen Máxima Zorreguieta of the Netherlands, a leader in inclusive finance. Each of them shared their vision on how we can contribute to a more prosperous and balanced future. Cintia Jaime expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to take part in this transformative meeting, highlighting: “It was an invaluable experience to continue learning and sharing our vision from the ‘Welcome to My Village’ program, working toward a more inclusive and sustainable future for rural communities.”

ESTACIONES RELOADED: Benefit Concert for ES VICIS Supported by the Basel Symphony Orchestra

Over 140 people attended the “ESTACIONES RELOADED” concert, featuring a repertoire by Vivaldi and Piazzolla, and enjoyed the brilliant performances of soloists Andrés Gabetta and Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, accompanied by members of the Basel Symphony Orchestra.   On October 26, the “ESTACIONES RELOADED” concert took place, showcasing the works of Vivaldi and Piazzolla. The exceptional performance was led by soloists Andrés Gabetta and Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, accompanied by members of the Basel Symphony Orchestra, including Akiko Hasegawa (violin), Vahagn Aristakesyan (violin), Yun Wu (viola), Judith Gerster (cello), and Philippe Schnepp (double bass), with the Basel Symphony Orchestra as the event’s principal sponsor. Andrés Gabetta, a renowned Argentinian baroque violinist, is celebrated for his extraordinary talent. His recording of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, performed with period instruments, was released by Sony. He also played “The Four Seasons” as a soloist during Vivaldi’s grand tour with Cecilia Bartoli in December 2018/January 2019. Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi, born in Atessa on December 26, 1980, graduated with honors from the Santa Cecilia Academy of Music in Rome in 2007. Known for his refined musicality, Mario is an exceptional performer and has won numerous national and international competitions. In addition to the fantastic concert, attendees were treated to a welcome drink and a post-event cocktail. Launch of the Membership Program The ES VICIS leadership took the opportunity to share the foundation’s ongoing projects and vision, inviting attendees to join the neo-ruralization movement. During the event, the Membership Program was officially launched, offering an annual support system for ES VICIS initiatives and projects worldwide. Proceeds from ticket sales and additional donations will go towards expanding the impact of the “Welcome to My Village” program by the ES VICIS Foundation. A Breakthrough with Voices from All Sectors Questioning Urbanization as the Sustainable Model for Humanity and Nature

Cintia Jaime, co-founder of the ES VICIS Foundation, was invited as a panelist at the Basel Peace Forum, where the foundation also led a workshop. Experts from diverse sectors gathered to explore alternatives for enhancing quality of life and promoting sustainability. Urbanization was critically examined, with the central question: Is the urbanization model, as outlined in the UN’s Quito Agenda of 2016, truly the ideal habitat for humanity?   20 January 2022, Basel – At the 5th Basel Peace Forum, the ES VICIS Foundation hosted a workshop titled “New Approach to Ruralization: The Realistic Alternative to Overcrowded Cities.” Participants included government officials, international organizations, academics, and sustainability experts. The event explored solutions to the problems caused by urban overcrowding, such as dangerous public spaces, poverty, high energy consumption, waste generation, and greenhouse gas emissions. The ES VICIS Foundation advocates for innovative ruralization, revitalizing and repopulating villages by harnessing latent opportunities and promoting sustainable migration from cities to rural areas. This approach aims to support rural renewal and unlock economic potential through technology and innovation. Over 25 countries have expressed interest in the model. Johannes Matyassy, Deputy State Secretary at the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, praised the event for its innovative approach to addressing the challenges posed by urbanization. Cintia Jaime, co-founder of ES VICIS, emphasized the importance of questioning urbanization and proposing a new approach that harnesses technology and the global opportunities of digitalization to enrich rural areas. Daniel Winzenried, co-founder of ES VICIS, highlighted the opportunity to address territorial inequalities and the vulnerabilities of metropolitan areas exposed by the pandemic. Experts like Carlos Álvarez Pereira – Executive Director of The Club of Rome- also stressed the need to rethink urbanization and embrace revitalizing and repopulating villages as a tool for climate resilience and community well-being.
